San Diego Dog Beaches
We all know San Diego is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, but did you know that only a select few are actually dog-friendly (ie; off-leash play allowed)? Here’s a reference list next time you’re thinking about heading to the coast with your pup in tow!
Del Mar Dog Beach - 3200 Camino del Mar
A North County favorite, Del Mar Dog Beach (on the Northern end of the beach) is both scenic and fun - a great destination for dogs and humans alike! The water from the shore flows underneath a bridge and into a nearby lagoon, creating a unique and shallow, wave-free area for dogs to paddle around in. Take note that seasonal leash rules apply - day after Labor Day through June 15, all dogs must be leashed.
Ocean Beach Dog Beach - W Point Loma Blvd
Arguably one of the most popular beaches in America’s Finest City, OB Dog Beach is located in the heart of San Diego just west of the 8 Freeway. It’s open 24-hours a day if you prefer to beat the heat (and crowds)!
Fiesta Island - 1750 Fiesta Island Rd
Because of calmer water conditions offered by the bay, casual K-9 swimmers love this park. The endless amount of open space and man-made sand dunes are an added play time bonus. It’s impossible to not have fun here!
Coronado Dog Beach - 100 Ocean Blvd
Located next to the U.S. Naval Station and also open 24/7, Coronado Dog Beach is a local favorite. You’ll love the stunning views and your dog will love the sprawling, sandy space to run around in. The foot/dog wash shower at the exit is an added convenience after a day of play!
