Homemade Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Treats
Halloween is officially a month away! If you’re a basic witch and love everything pumpkin, I’ve found just the thing for you - peanut butter pumpkin dog treats! Why should our pups miss out on all the good stuff the spooky season has to offer?
Only seven simple and safe ingredients are needed for this festive treat: whole wheat flour, eggs, canned pumpkin puree, peanut butter, salt, cinnamon, and water.
The best part? All of these ingredients are safe and nutritious for Fido! Whole wheat flour adds fiber, protein, and anti-oxidants. Eggs also provide protein, fatty acids, and vitamins. Aside from being delicious, cinnamon is a great anti-inflammatory and supports heart health.
A quick word of caution about peanut butter - ALWAYS check the ingredient list and make sure it’s free of Xylitol which can be harmful to dogs. Natural is always best! Exercise the same caution with canned pumpkin puree and make sure it’s not labeled “pie filling” as that can contain unnecessary added sugars.
Once all of the ingredients are mixed together to form a dough, grab your favorite cookie cutters, place them on a baking sheet and pop them in the oven for 40 minutes at 350 degrees (or until crunchy). Make sure to let them cool completely before giving them to your pup.
I hope your dog enjoys these goodies as much as I’m sure you’ll enjoy making them. Cuddling and watching spooky movies together while enjoying the treats is optional, but highly recommended!
