Preparing For Your Session
Simple & Customized Planning
During our pre-shoot consult call we will discuss all of the particulars about your custom pet photography experience. I will get to learn about you, your pet and the art you would like me to create. I will need to know about your animal's temperament, behaviors and learned commands. We will also decide if you want to use props or accessories and explore the settings, colors and design styles you would like for your images. I encourage you to send me any visuals and inspiration (i.e. screen shots, Pinterest pins, etc.) before the shoot.
Professional Photo Session
When we meet for the shoot I will spend time building trust and getting to know your pet so that they can be comfortable with me, my camera and the studio. In general, I will be low or on the ground so that I am eye level with your pet to get their greatest expressions. LOTS of treats included!
Your Role
As the owner of the pet I will ask you to assist me in getting the perfect looks and responses that you are wanting. It is important that the pet is looking into my lens as much as possible. I will have you stand on my side or behind me so that you can give commands and treats while I take their photos. My studio set is small so I kindly ask that you bring no more than 2 people to your pet’s session. This helps reduce unwanted shadows and distractions so your pet doesn’t become overstimulated.
If we are photographing at your home, take some time to identify rooms that will provide a lot of natural light and at what time of the day. Please be sure to de-clutter any rooms we will be using.
Client Checklist
A Few Days Before
It's always a good idea to have your animal groomed and bathed so that they're looking their best. Please make sure their eyes are visible and that any tear stains are removed as much as possible. Also, practice some basics of obedience training as it would be wonderful if your pet can sit, stay and wait on command.
The Day Of
Please feed your pet a little less than normal so that they will be alert and attentive during the shoot. It's also a good idea to try and take them on a nice, long walk so that they are relaxed and less stressed.
Don't forget to wipe away those pesky eye boogers!
Directions to the Studio:
My home studio address is 927 Marine View Drive, Vista, CA 92081. Upon arrival, turn left onto the cement driveway (the adjoining asphalt driveway leads to my neighbor’s house). You may park in front of the two garage spaces on the driveway. The studio is located in the garage on the right when facing the house.
Items To Bring:
Leash & Collar - These may be necessary in order to get your pet to pose. I will edit them out of the final shots.
Accessories - This includes anything you'd like your pet to wear, such as; bandanas, outfits, head bands, bow ties, etc.
Toys - Favorite toys, balls or whatever your pet needs to be responsive. I also have noisemakers to capture your pet's attention.
Treats - I will have plenty of yummy things to share. However, bringing their favorite treats may aid in getting those perfect expressions.

"Alison is easily the best photographer experience my sphynxes ever had!
She is accommodating, precise, and curates top-notch show quality images with a quick turnaround rate. I have spent years with my cats in front of the camera and for this experience - you can't get better. I'm grateful to have Alison in my corner. I will be coming back forever. Thanks for being the bees-knees Alison!"
